IMOD Archives: Preserving Dance in Motion

The International Museum of Dance Archives is more than a place to store the past—it is a living, breathing legacy of movement, memory, and cultural brilliance from around the world.

In partnership with ChromaDiverse (CD), a nonprofit leader in digital dance preservation, IMOD is redefining what it means to archive the ephemeral. As of 2025, ChromaDiverse is IMOD’s permanent digital preservation partner, fully integrated under our brand. A formal merger is planned for the 2025–2026 season.

ChromaDiverse’s mission is to help dance organizations preserve, celebrate, and amplify their art forms online, turning dormant materials into dynamic, accessible digital archives. Their innovative tools, CD DigitalVault™ and SmartCapture™, tackle the challenges of documenting and preserving dance while strengthening everyday operations—from licensing and restaging to fundraising, marketing, and community engagement.

What Makes the IMOD Archives Different

  • Fast & Efficient – We don’t believe in waiting years for results. Our archive system is built for speed and responsiveness.

  • Affordable – We offer a low-cost, high-impact model that ensures artists and small organizations are not left behind.

  • Community-Driven – We handle every contribution with care, context, and cultural respect.

  • Equity-Minded Access – Our archive is designed to reach beyond museum walls, offering access to exhibitions, performances, and educational content for those unable to attend in person due to financial or geographic constraints.

As we move into our next chapter, the IMOD Archives will continue to evolve as a vital foundation for our museum’s work, supporting dance communities locally, nationally, and globally.
